Scrappy Pouch

The newest freebie is a double zipper pouch that comes in two different sizes, small and medium. It is launched to celebrate my new website design. Although I originally had other plans, they just ended up being postponed. So with only a few days left before the new webside was to be published I knew I needed a quick and simple project, but something fun too. I have made this pouch a couple of times before – a long time ago, and decided that with a few updates it would be a perfect project for my relaunch. I am always saving my scraps, fabric can be expensive and I dont want to throw away perfectly good fabric. So I decided to find some of my scrap fabrics and make some cool design. I think it ended up really cool. This is how you make your own pouch.

1. Create a zipper tab by folding the zipper tab fabric 1 cm on each side short side and press.

2. Fold it in half .

3. Place it on the end of the zipper and sew a seam straight across, securing it to the zipper.

4. Do this on both ends for both zipper tabs. The top zipper should have a total length of 20 cm and the bottom a total length of 22 cm for the small pouch. The top zipper should have a total length of 30 cm and the bottom a total length of 32 cm for the medium pouch. Cut of the access zipper tabs

5. Place the bottom of your bottom zipper 5 cm from the top of your first fabric for the small pouch and 10 cm from the top on the medium pouch.

6. Sew a straight seam.

7. Fold the bottom of the first fabric to the wrong side of the zipper. Place the second fabric right sides together with the zipper.

8. Sew a seam across.

9. First press the fabric on the bottom of the zippers. Making sure the zipper lays flat, press the fabric on top of the zipper. Sew a seam on the top side of the zipper, this will hide the edge of the zipper.

10. Place the top zipper right sides together with the top of your first fabric, keeping 1 cm from each side.

11. Place the top of your lining to the wrong side of the zipper.

12. Sew it in place and fold it right sides out.

13. Place the bottom of your second fabric right sides together with the other side of the zipper.

14. Place the bottom of your lining right sides with the wrong side of the zipper.

15. Sew it in place. Open up the zippers. Press.

16. Optional: create a loop for hanging by folding the fabric in half and pressing. Open it up and fold the sides inwards and press. Fold it in half and sew with a 0.5 cm seam allowance around it.

17. Place the main fabric right sides together and the lining right sides together, to with the main fabric on one side of the zipper and the lining on the over. If adding a loop, place it between your top and bottom zipper on one side.

18. Leaving a turning hole in the lining, sew around the entire pouch. Make sure to not sew over the zipper tabs in the top zipper.

19. Turn it right side out through the hole in the lining.

20. Pin the hole in the lining and sew it shut. You can either use your sewing machine for a visible seam or sew a ladder stitch by hand for an invisible seam.
